The Mark I Male was the world’s first operational tank and made its combat debut during the Battle of the Somme in 1916. Armed with two 6-pounder naval guns and multiple machine guns, it was designed to cross trenches and break through enemy defences. Its introduction marked the beginning of armoured warfare.
